The Fanfic Post

By special request (you know who you are), I have enlisted the help of my resident adolescent girl cousin to put together this post.

Remember the days of fanfiction? I still read it, from time to time, when I just want more from a particular book or TV show or movie. What happens to the characters after the story ends? What did the writers of those other mediums do that I so would not have done? (I'm talking to you, James Cameron. Killing off Jack Dawson spawned me into fanfic writing.)

Now, the request was specifically for Twilight fic. So here are links:

These may be updated at a later date, so stay tuned.

But--for the rest of you--I posit this question. Why do you think people read/ write fanfic? What fanfic, if any, do you read? Have you written any?

Leave your comments below.

  1. Hey, it's Liz. I think people write fanfiction for ssome of the reasons you posted. Some authors wish to change the end result of the story or episode of a TV show. A popular example is Castle. Many people rewrite the ending to season two because everyone was upset over the ending. or, people just want to write a plot they've been dying to get out of their head.

Most of the fanfics I read are Twilight, but I do read others like Castle and Avatar the Last Airbender. I've written two fics, neither are completed at the moment and I'm banging my head against the wall over my Castle fic. Anyway, talk to you later.

  2. Thank you, Liz. I know, for example, that a lot of Lost fans tried to write fanfiction to figure out where the show was going or why it was taking the twists it was taking or to write down their own theories.

I wrote mostly "real people" fic. For me, there was a strong fantasy aspect to it. But that's what fanfiction is, isn't it? :)

  3. Yeah, if you ever write an original character, be careful, the fanfiction police might be knocking on your door, telling you it's a mary sue.

  4. People say that about Stephenie Meyer and Bella, that Bella is a Mary Sue. Which I kind of think she is.

  5. She is, but if you think about a lot of characters are mary sues. Look at some of the TV shows.
